Regional Economic Forecasting Panel
The Regional Economic Forecasting Panel was set up in
2003. It consists of 12 senior representatives of business,
academia and the public sector in the Northwest. On an annual
cycle, the Panel produces three year forecasts for the Northwest
updated six-monthly and a long-term forecast consistent with the
planning horizon for the Regional Economic Strategy. In
2009-10, the contract for provision of services of the panel was
awarded to SQW with forecasting expertise supplied by Cambridge
Econometrics.
The Panel's latest publication is the Business Forecasts
Northwest Spring 2010 report, a short-term forecast covering the
period 2010 - 2013. This report looks at the current economic
climate in the Northwest and provides a three year forecast taking
into account threats and opportunities to the Northwest economy
from global and UK prospects.
The Spring Business Forecasts Northwest report takes a cautious
view of the current economic climate highlighting a number of risks
the Northwest economy will have to traverse to secure its economic
recovery.
