Abstract
Tourism Satellite Accounts are being used increasingly widely both within the European Union and elsewhere in the world and are emerging as the recommended way of measuring a nation’s economic significance of tourism. The methodology has the approval of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the UN, OECD and EUROSTAT.
The TSA First Steps project led by DCMS consisted of four components covering accounts for a) the UK, b) Ireland, including Northern Ireland, c) the nine English regions, and d) scoping work covering the Crown Dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. The overall aim of the project was to build provisional tables as far as possible for each of the geographies and to make recommendations for further work.
The UK First Steps report was published in September 2004. An English Region's TSA report is also available.
