Abstract
In 2008, the NWDA commissioned the Welsh Economy Research Unit and Regeneris Consulting to undertake a study to quantify the economic significance of tourism in terms of overall contribution to gross value added (GVA) and employment for the Northwest region as a whole and for each of the five sub regions.
The project also included some case study work covering food & drink, rural diversification, the metropolitan economy (focusing on central Manchester), regional airports (focusing on Liverpool John Lennon airport) and a heavily tourism dependent rural locality in Cumbria (Windermere & Bowness).
